"6ixband took the centre stage and entertained guests with classic ballads and demonstrated great instrument skills through their wonderful performance. Each song highlighted the character, range and technical abilities of an individual instrument and the band stood out on their own as intricate musical assemble."  - Bandwidth Magazine

KK Jazz Fest 2012 15th to 16th June

We just couldn't believe we were selected!! I still remembered attending the 1st KK Jazz Fest 6 years ago and totally mesmerized by all the performances. Never in my wildest dream did I think that someday I’ll be playing with my own band in the same event 6 years later. I think we were overwhelmed and jumpy at the same time when the news came. Big names such as Roger Wang Trio, Juwita Suwito, Amir Yussof and Rio Sidik just to name a few, were unbelievable on stage. 6ixband have great respect to all the performers and it has been an incredible experience playing in an event this big. To my band mates … a job well done guys! Cheers!!

KK Jazz Fest 2012 Talent Search.

The event was held in The Chocolate Factory KK Times Square on the 26th May 2012. The reason why we joined the contest was for the experience I guess, nothing more and nothing less. Winning or even to be chosen to perform for the KK Jazz Fest 2012 would be a bonus. The organizer will select three top bands out of of eight bands in this search to be given a slot each in KK Jazz fest 2012.  Never before we performed in front of a crowd that actually love music. They actually came to see the bands and just want to enjoy good music. It was pretty nerve wrecking for us, but as soon as the crowd cheered when we started playing our first song, it was all gone. Here are some of the photos taken during the event. Thanks to our friend Mr. Charles Liew for the wonderful photos.
While the band was setting up, Erwin was interviewed with some tricky questions like "Why 6ixband but there's only 5 of you?"

Mr. Roger Wang presented a two day pass tickets to 6ixband. If we were not chosen, we can still go to the event for free. Cool!!

6ixband's Foot Cabasa

The Meinl FCA5L Foot Cabasa

The band have been thinking of adding a foot cabasa into our setup for quite a while now but this thing was very hard to come by here in K.K. I got this one from a music store in K.L called DOREMI Sound & Lights Sdn Bhd in Chow Kit area. This one is well built and heavier than I thought. It really does add colours into our sound and we are very pleased to have it in the band. I recorded our very first practice with it and I was quite impressed on how quick our cajon player adapt with the foot cabasa. After a few minutes of adjustments we were ready to jam. Here is the recorded jam session with the new foot cabasa.

To memorize or not to memorize?

Funny Moment.

I guess even though we are more confident with the printed lyrics in front of us. Without even realizing it, we actually we know what is next in line due to extensive repetition during practice.
